Richard Allen Ashburn, 79, of Arnold, MD passed away peacefully on September 12, 2018.
Richard was born to Mary Hogge and Van Ashburn on September 29, 1938 in Weems, Virginia.
He was raised in Baltimore, along with his brothers, Titus and Floyd, and attended Baltimore Polytechnic Institute. He proudly served in the United States Air Force. Richard had a career as a State Farm Insurance agent for 54 years. He was the artist behind Blue Crab Pottery, loved to travel and was an avid scuba diver. He is best known by friends and family as a Master story teller. He lived life to the fullest!
Richard was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Andrea. They are now "dancing" together in heaven. He is survived by his five children: Lynn Ashburn of Pittsfield, MA, Richard Ashburn, Jr. of LaFayette, CA, Laurie Ashburn Bobb (David) of Arnold, MD, Sharon Ashburn Zinker (Mike) of Clark, CO, and Lawrence Ashburn (Michelle) of Oceanside, CA. He was also known as Grandpop to 12 and Pop Pop to 8, Uncle Richard, Ash, Dick and Mr. A.
A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, October 5, 2018 at 12:00 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, MD 21146. The memorial service will follow the gathering and begin at 1:00 pm at the funeral home. The interment will follow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery Crownsville, 1122 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville, MD 21032.
For those who would like to join after the services or for those who cannot make the services, a gathering will be held at the Ashburn home in Arnold, at 4:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made Potters' Guild of Annapolis, Chesapeake Bay Foundation or Hospice of the Chesapeake.
