Carl Louis Eckels, 91, a longtime resident of Severna Park, passed away on April 2, 2018 at his home.

He was born on January 17, 1927 in Baltimore, and was raised in Baltimore, and attended City College. He was drafted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and served during WWII.

Carl was drafted by the New York Yankees in 1947 as a pitcher, then he attended Loyola College and played for the Loyola Greyhounds. At Loyola, he received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

Carl worked for Western Electric for 30 years until his retirement.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus # 3413 and was a Point Breeze Club Life Member.

Carl was an avid Orioles, Colts, and Ravens fan. He also enjoyed traveling and reading.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna DiGiacomo, who passed away in 1969 and his brother, Philip Eckels who passed away in 2010.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Veronica "Pat" Eckels of Severna Park; four sons, David Eckels (Kristin) of Arnold, Michael Eckels (Christine) of Ridgewood, NJ, Robert Eckels of Baltimore, and Ronald Eckels (Colleen) of Highlands Ranch, CO; and ten grandchildren, Grace, Luke, Clare, Anna, Emily, Christopher, Ethan, Jacob, Ryan, and Xavier.

Family and friends may visit on Thursday, April 5th, 2018 from 3-5pm and 7-9pm at the Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 6th, 2018 at 11am at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Hwy. Interment will follow at Baltimore National Cemetery in Catonsville.
