Toomey
March 1, 1932 – January 10, 2008
William Joseph Toomey, 75, of Severna Park died Jan. 10 at Household of Angels Assisted Living after a long illness.
Mr. Toomey was born March 1, 1932, in New York City, and lived in Queens, N.Y., and Greenwood Lake, N.Y. He graduated from Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School, and earned a bachelor's degree in pre-medicine from Fordham University. He earned his master's of business administration from Lehigh University.
He worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. as an industrial sale engineer for 10 years, then worked for Victor Balata Belting Co. and later Celanese Corp. as a national sales manager. He worked from 1975 to 1992 as the vice president of Tate Engineering, and in 1992 he founded William J. Toomey Shamrock Associates, Inc.
He served in the Army for two years as a First Lieutenant in the Transportation Corps.
He was the past president of the National Belting Association, and was a member of Sales and Marketing Executives in Easton, Pa., the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and St. John the Evangelist Parish in Severna Park, where he was a Eucharist minister and lector.
He enjoyed golfing, boating skiing, and travelling through Western Europe. He was a dual citizen of the United States and Ireland.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Myra Kay Toomey.
Survivors include one son, Michael William Toomey of Glen Burnie and Amanda Kathleen Toomey Gartner of Severna Park; and two granddaughters.
Family and friends may visit from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 2 p.m. Friday at St. John the Evangelist Church, 689 Ritchie Highway in Severna Park.
Interment is private.
