William Odell Shiplet, 95, a resident of Saint Leonard, MD, passed away on May 23, 2016, due to natural causes.
He was born on August 9, 1920 in Hollis, Oklahoma to James Marion Shiplett and Rosa Etta Hedrick Shiplett and was raised in New Mexico. He graduated from Chama High School in Chama, New Mexico and married Helen Violet Burk on June 8, 1946. He previously lived in Baltimore before moving to Saint Leonard, MD.
William served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1942-1945, and was stationed in Africa and Italy.
He worked for the Baltimore Sun as a proofreader and was a member of the Columbia Typographical Union No. 101-12 in Washington, DC.
William was a member of the Lutheran and United Church of Christ and he enjoyed square dancing, gardening, camping, hiking, music & singing, and woodworking/carpentry.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Violet Shiplet, who died on April 3, 2014; his parents, James Marion Shiplett and Rosa Etta Hedrick Shiplett; his grandparents, Finch Shiplett and Artemissia Moody; his brothers, Evert Shiplett and Lloyd Shiplett; and his sisters, Irene Shiplett, Margaret Shiplett, and Oleta Shiplett.
He is survived by children, Myron Shiplet (Mary) of Pasadena, Glenn Shiplet (Carol) of St. Leonard, James Shiplet (Cindra) of Rosewood, Wayne Shiplet (Donna) of Eldersburg, and Bonny Shiplet of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren, Jeffrey Shiplet, Melanie Shiplet, Kimberly Shiplet, Aimee Shiplet, Christina Gammons, Stephen Lidard, Kristine Carper, Mark Shiplet, Roxanne Knepp, Gretchen Ruprecht, Jamie Shiplet, Peter Shiplet, Kayla Shiplet; great- grandchildren, Genevieve Shiplet, Josephine Shiplet, Jack Shiplet, Alyse Gammons, Nathan Gammons, Owen Gammons, Justin Lidard, Christopher Lidard, Gregory Shiplet, Lyla Shiplet, Katherine Shiplet,Thomas Carper, and Benjamin Carper, and Miles Ruprecht. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Family and friends may visit on Friday, May 27, 2016 from 12:00 pm -1:00 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy, in Severna Park. A Funeral Service will follow the visitation on Friday at 1:00 pm, in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Baltimore.
