William Barton Shermer, 72, a 32 year resident of Pasadena, died on April 22, 2014 at his home, due to complications due to cancer, after a 3+ year illness.
He was born July 10, 1941 in Havertown Pennsylvania. After completing Haverford College, he joined the Navy and resided in a number of places around the world.
William completed 26 years of US Naval Service as a Special Duty Cryptologist. He was a trained and skilled Mandarin linguist and eventually used that skill to learn Spanish, Lithuanian, German, Russian, Latin some French and some Turkish. Once he retired, he became the Co-owner, President and Chief Operating Officer for Blue Goose Charters, home ported in Baltimore, MD and specializing in single screw operation of diesel trawlers.
He was an avid boater, community activist, gun enthusiast, decoy collector, and especially enjoyed traveling to different countries to practice the different languages he spoke.
William was active in the Airport Coordination Team (ACT), President of Marine Traders Owners Association (MTOA), on the Board of Directors for the Grand Harbor Trawler Association, and held several positions on the Anchorage Marina Board of Directors, including President, Vice-President and Treasurer.
He is survived by his current wife of 35 years Alexis Loo, his children from a previous marriage Cassandra, Samantha, Amanda and William Joseph and 10 grandchildren.
Family and friends may visit on Saturday, April 26, 2014 from 1-3 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy, in Severna Park, followed by a Celebration of Life Service beginning at 3:00 pm.
