William Penton Pitcher, 86, of Stevensville and previously of Jacksonville, Fla., died of pneumonia Feb. 8 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Mr. Pitcher was born July 13, 1921, in Baltimore, where he was raised.
He retired from the National Can Co. in Baltimore after 39 years. He also worked as an usher at the former Memorial Stadium.
He served in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific during World War II.
Mr. Pitcher was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Moose Lodge 1456 in Glen Burnie.
He loved sports and was a fan of the Terps and Orioles. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren's sporting events and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Dolores H. Kerr Pitcher; two daughters, Susan D. Shugars of Pasadena and Michele P. Hustead of Stevensville; and three granddaughters.
A memorial visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to St. Christopher's Catholic Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 660, Chester, MD 21619.
