IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William J.
Parris
November 19, 1926 – February 22, 2019
William J. "Bill" Parris, a long-time resident of Severna Park, MD, passed away on February 22, 2019 at the age of 92. Bill was born in Cave Spring, GA, the youngest of four sons of Richard Cohen and Lula (Nix) Parris. Following his father's death in 1932 the family moved to Atlanta. Bill attended Georgia Tech High School, enlisting in the Navy shortly after graduation. He was trained to be a radio operator. After the war he attended Georgia Tech, graduating with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He married Jacqueline Harper Nevers in 1950. The couple moved to Burlington, NC, where Bill worked for Western Electric, and then to Maryland, where, in 1956, Bill accepted a position with Westinghouse Electronic Systems. Bill worked for Westinghouse for 30 years, retiring in 1986. He and Jackie enjoyed years of travel and golf until Alzheimer's took its toll on Jackie's health.
Fascinated since childhood by all things mechanical, Bill could fix anything. In retirement, he taught himself to work with computers. Sadly, he never could get the hang of touch-typing! He loved his family, music, books, bad puns, and single malt Scotch.
In addition to his wife, Bill is predeceased by brothers Richard Cohen Jr., Charles Nix, and Robert Douglas Parris, as well as several much-loved and faithful cats, including Misty, Sampson, and Cecil. He is survived by son Kevin W. Parris (Faye) and daughters Jan Parris Zehner (Stan) and L. Eileen Parris, and by grandchildren Alexia L. Zehner, Brian D. Parris (Lyssa) and Wendy L. Zehner.
The family would like to thank Hospice of the Chesapeake for their care and support, and asks that, in lieu of flowers, friends consider making a donation in Bill's memory to Hospice of the Chesapeake Foundation, John and Cathy Belcher Campus, 90 Ritchie Highway, Pasadena, MD 21122.
