William L. Morris, 72, of Severna Park, passed away on April 19, 2026.

Bill was born on October 27, 1953, in Baltimore to the late Charles and Ina Jane Morris—making his entrance four minutes ahead of his twin brother, Scott, just to set the tone for a lifetime of doing things his own way.

He graduated from Severna Park High School and went on to work as a carpenter and welder for companies including American Infrastructure, Roy Kirby and Sons, and BG & Johnny Geddings. He built homes for family and friends that are still standing today—likely sturdier than some of the decisions made inside them.

Bill had a well-earned reputation for finding trouble—getting into it, getting out of it, or occasionally getting caught. He didn’t mind. Rules were more like suggestions, and he had a way of making even his worst ideas sound like a good time.

He gave his sisters Margaret and Michelle a hard time every chance he got—it was practically a sport—but it was always rooted in love. And when it came to his sister Linda, the bond ran deeper, marked by a closeness and understanding that didn’t need much explaining.

He loved NASCAR and made his way to tracks all across the Eastern and Southern United States. He could tell a story like no one else—especially when it came to his legendary road trip with his cousin and partner-in-crime, Harold Bell. The details may have changed over the years, but the spirit never did.

Music was another constant in his life, and he spent many nights at live shows with his brother Lewis. He was an avid reader, tearing through books faster than most people could start them. He had a thing for old cameras and black-and-white photography—no filters, no fuss, just real moments the way he liked them. In more recent years, he could often be found at the HoneyBee Diner with his brother Kenny, holding court over a meal with family and friends.

He was married once, and from that union came his only child, Shannon. Life didn’t always follow a straight line for him, but one thing he never doubted was that Shannon loved him no matter what—and that steadied him more than he ever let on.

But if there was one thing that could slow him down—in the best way—it was his granddaughter, Santana. Her arrival softened his edges and gave him a kind of joy that even he couldn’t joke his way out of.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Morris, and his parents.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Shannon Morris, who knew him best and loved him anyway; his granddaughter, Santana Hawk, who brought out the very best in him; and his siblings: Margaret and Larry Sublett; Scott and Sheila Morris; Kenneth and Linda Morris; Lewis and Kelly Morris; brother-in-law Paul Batchelor and Michelle and John Skidmore. He also leaves behind 14 nieces and nephews, 20 great-nieces and nephews, and more friends than could ever be counted—many with stories they probably shouldn’t repeat.

“The world spins without you—it just doesn’t spin as true.”
