William D. "Mac" McKendrick, 69, a resident of Sun Valley in Glen Burnie since 1978, died of complications of pancreatic cancer Dec. 11 at his home after a brief illness.
Mr. McKendrick was born Dec. 14, 1934, in Gettysburg, Pa., and raised in Biglerville, Pa. An alumnus of Gettysburg High School, he moved to Maryland in 1958 to work for the Glenn L. Martin Co. as a machinist. He spent 45 years in the trade, was considered one of the top machinists in the Baltimore area and could fix almost anything, his family said. He retired in 2000 from Command Technology.
Mr. McKendrick was an avid hunter and gunsmith, who built many rifles from scratch. He also liked to reload and test his own ammunition. His interests included travel, camping, fishing and the outdoors. In his later years he became a fan of NASCAR and enjoyed daily reading the newspapers front to back.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara McKendrick; six children, Tim and Daryl McKendrick of Baltimore, Tammy Jenkins of Severna Park, Tangee Taylor of Orlando, Fla., Michelle McKendrick of Pasadena and Toby Bowden of Berlin, Pa.; one sister, Jean Glass of Biglerville; and 11 grandchildren.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, where services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Park in Glen Burnie.
