William H Leonard, "Bill", of Severna Park, died suddenly on June 24 after battling heart disease for several years.

Bill was born on November 6, 1929 and grew up in Cumberland, MD, graduating from Allegany High School in 1947. He went on to attend Frostburg State College, specializing in mathematics and science. After graduating he joined the Army Corps of Engineers and served his country with distinction in the Korean War.

In 1953 he married his college sweetheart, Dolly Burrell. Bill worked as a teacher in the Washington DC area before joining Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Baltimore, where he worked for 36 years, first as an Aerospace Engineer and later as a member of management. As part of his responsibilities at Westinghouse Bill had the opportunity to travel the world, visiting many countries in Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Bill was an enthusiast of genealogy research and an amateur Civil War historian. He loved reading and classical music. He is fondly remembered by family and friends for his ready wit and sense of humor.

Bill is survived by his wife, Dolly, two daughters; Leslie Lowe and husband Paul of Sellersville, PA, and Linda Leonard and husband Mike Abrams of Takoma Park, MD. He had three grandchildren, Amy Lowe, John Lowe, and Griffin Abrams.
