William "Bill" Howard Kumm

(February 6, 1931 – December 4, 2016)

Mr. William Howard Kumm, a resident of Severna Park since 1965, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2016 at his home in Brightview Severna Park.

He was born in Sao Salvador, Bahia, Brazil in 1931 and attended Escola Americana in Rio de Janeiro, where he pursued his passion for electronics and radio.  He later attended Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics in 1952.  After graduation he joined Westinghouse Electric Corporation, where he made important contributions to the development of various airborne and seaborne defense systems and was awarded several US Patents, as well as participating in the Presidential Interchange Executives program from 1971 to 1973.  In 1978 he left Westinghouse after 26 years to launch several consulting businesses concentrating on innovative energy technologies as a Professional Engineer in Maryland.

A devoted husband to the late Anne Gibson Kumm for 60 years, father and grandfather, his interests included maintaining and restoring various classic Rover automobiles and maintaining and enjoying a family home in New Hampshire's White Mountains.

Mr. Kumm is survived by his son John Henry Kumm; daughters Elizabeth Anne Kumm and Katharine Lucy (Kumm) Anderson; and four grandchildren, Ryan, Adam, Daniel and Sarah.

A memorial service, followed by interment in the memorial garden, will be held on Saturday December 17 ^th at 1 pm at St. Martin's-in-the-Field Episcopal Church at 375 Benfield Road, Severna Park, Maryland 21146.  The service will be followed by a reception at the church.
