William Neilson Jr.

William Edward Neilson Jr., 92, of Arnold, died April 17 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.

Mr. Neilson was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., on July 28, 1914, and reared in Baltimore. He served in the Army during World War II and participated in the Normandy landings on D-Day at Omaha Beach.

A cabinet maker by trade, he worked as a carpenter for Westinghouse Corp. for more than 16 years.

He was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Arnold and enjoyed wood working.

He married Catherine Devilbiss in 1947 and built their home in Arnold in 1948. His wife died Jan. 30, 2002.

Surviving are one son, Ronald H. Doub of Columbia, and two grandchildren.

Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, 78 Church Road, Arnold, MD 21012, in lieu of flowers.
