William (Bill) Eles Johnson, 78, of Severna Park, MD, died July 29, 2015 at Genesis Severna Park Center after a short illness. He was born on December 3, 1936 in Newport, NH, the oldest son of Eles and Beatrice Nichols Johnson. In his childhood he spent enjoyable times at the Johnson farm and Nichols family farm in Lempster, NH with his grandparents, aunts and uncles and many cousins.

He attended schools in Newport, NH and graduated from Towle High School in 1954. He enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in January 1955, graduating from electronics school of the United States Training Center in Groton, CT. He served active duty until 1959 when he was transferred to the Coast Guard Reserve. He served in the Reserve until 1963 when he was honorably discharged.

He went on to further his education at the University of New Hampshire where he majored in Electrical Engineering. While at UNH he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity.

After college he went to work for Westinghouse Electric Corporation as a Technical Services Engineer. He traveled all over the world in connection with his work. He enjoyed spending time in Hawaii where he had a second home. He retired from Westinghouse in 1993 and continued to be active working part time.

He married Yupin Liller, the love of his life, on October 9, 1987. They made a home together in their new house in Severna Park, MD. He especially enjoyed landscaping and working in their yard and gardens. She decorated their home with artifacts from their trips back to her native Thailand. After a period of failing health, Yupin died in December 1992.

He was a member of the American Legion Severn Post 175 of the Southern Maryland District, enjoying the camaraderie of the fellow members. His family and many friends in his neighborhood and beyond were a great help during his illness and he was most appreciative of their kindness. He was known for his loyalty and always being ready to help others using his many excellent skills.

He is survived by his brother Lawrence Johnson of Baker City, OR, his aunt and uncle Charlotte Nichols and Jeffrie Boutwell of Dublin, NH, aunt Priscilla Nichols of Orangevale, CA, twenty cousins and many friends. He was predeceased by his wife and parents.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2015 from 3-5 p.m. at Barranco & Sons, P.A Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy in Severna Park.The American Legion will perform a short service at 5 p.m. A graveside service with military honors will be held in New Hampshire at a later date, where he will be buried near his parents.
