William Jenkins
William Harry Jenkins, 73, of Millersville, died of multiple myeloma June 24 at Chesapeake Hospice House in Linthicum after a seven-year illness.
Born in Baltimore in 1931, Mr. Jenkins attended University of Maryland and received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Baltimore in 1958. He later graduated from the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, Calif., Army War College and National War College.
Mr. Jenkins served in Army during the Korean War. He then worked for the National Security Agency for 36 years, where he held a number of senior posts in both in the United States and Europe, including Inspector General, Chief, NSA Europe and Commandant of the National Cryptologic School. He retired in 1987 and subsequently worked as a security consultant and operated his own private law practice.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Shirley Gunther Jenkins, whom he married in 1953; two daughters, Grace Jenkins Powers of Naperville, Ill. and Amy Mataban of Finksburg, Md.; one sister, Dorothy Freeland of Landsdowne, Md.; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway in Severna Park. Funeral services and burial are private.
