William Charles (Bill) Greenlaw, 92, a resident of Severna Park for over 50 years, passed away on April 4, 2024.

Bill was born on March 17, 1932, in Lawrence, Massachusetts to the late Theresa and Clifford Greenlaw. Bill was raised in Methuen, MA, and graduated 2nd in his class from Central Catholic High School in 1949. Bill attended Brown University taking a double in Organic Chemistry and joined the NROTC where he received his appointment to attend the United Staes Naval Academy as a member of the Class of 1954. He graduated with distinction and commissioned an Ensign in the U.S. Navy Destroyer out of Rhode Island. He married his sweetheart Margaret J. Toomey on November 27, 1954, in Lynn, MA and were together until her death in 2015.After his submarine career he worked for the Department of Defense, Gould, Lockheed Martin and then joined his wife selling real estate.

Bill was an avid Navy Supporter and long-time football season ticket holder attending almost every home game since 1965. Once his children had grown up Bill made it a point to attend virtually every scholastic and sporting event in which his two grandsons were involved. Bill was known on the sideline as the avid cameraman filming every game no matter what the sport. Bill also enjoyed playing bridge, reading historical books and later in life took up wood carving and became an award-winning wood carver.

Bill is survived by one son, William Thomas Greenlaw, of Linthicum Heights; two daughters Mary Greenlaw, of Severna Park, and Kathleen Cerny and her husband, Michael, of Arnold; two grandchildren, Matthew Cerny and his wife Theresa along with their daughter Madison and son Michael, of Arnold, and Andrew Cerny and his wife Jordan of Harrogate, UK. Bill had one daughter who predeceased him, Martha Dix, of Crofton.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on April 19th from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Barranco Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy, in Severna Park. Bill will be interred with a private ceremony at the U.S. Naval Academy Columbarium.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the United States Naval Academy Foundation, Alzheimer's Association or Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
