William J. Grant, Sr., 86, of Pasadena, Maryland, passed away, Friday, October 14, 2016 at his home. He was born in 1930 to Catherine Grant (Mewshaw) and William Ulysses Grant of Baltimore.

He attended Old Patterson High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1947-1952. He then went on to work at Shell Oil Company.  Many may know Bill from the Chicken Roost/Stop restaurant from 1969-1979.  Later he was employed by Essex Chemical and Dow Chemical Company until he retired in 1994.

He was a self-taught man who could do anything he set his mind to.  He did numerous home improvement projects for himself and many others.  He never let the challenges in life hold him back.  He was a dreamer.  Above all, he was a wonderful father and family man.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Mary L. Grant (Couch) in 1972. Bill has three children: Joreen Covington and husband Bruce Covington (deceased), Karen Willey and husband Michael Willey, and William J. Grant, Jr.  Seven grandchildren: Lauren Grant Faircloth, Heather and John Cotton, Nicholas Poe (deceased), Brandon Grant (wife Cherie), Jacy Covington Earls (husband Jeff), Lindsey Covington & Caitlin Grant. Nine great-grandchildren: Kayla Blann, Chloe & Ellie Cotton; Jolee & Jace Earls; Spencer Faircloth; Dylan, Gunnar & Vivienne Grant.  He also had several nieces, nephews and cousins. Very dear friends include Ruth and Charles ("Putz") Chelf, Alice Grant (and son Jeff), and Lou Reed.
