William Chalmers Grant, Jr.of Severna Park, Maryland and of Greer, South Carolina passed away on August 25, 2011 after a long fight with Alzheimer's
He was 88 years old, born in Worchester, MA. He was pre-deceased by his wife of 63 years, Goldena Florence Toole Grant and his sister Phyllis Masterson. He is survived by his sister, Shirley Lord of Benson Vermont and his three daughters Judy Grant Christie of Severna Park, MD, Phyllis Grant of Oviedo, FL and Barbara Soderberg of Madison, CT; two grandchildren, Amy Wilt of Fleming Island, FL and David Grant Soderberg of London, UK.
Mr. Grant graduated from Worcester Polytechnic with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1944. He attended midshipmen school in New York and received his commission as an Ensign in the Navy. He served as an engineering officer in the American and Asiatic Pacific Theatres, serving aboard the USS TEAK. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, he was employed by Joseph E. Seagram's & Sons as an Engineer. He started his career in Louisville, Kentucky. Later moving to Maryland and New York City offices and finally retiring from the Relay Plant in Maryland after 36 years. Mr. Grant retired with his wife to Greer, South Carolina where they lived for 19 years before returning to Severna Park, MD where they resided with their daughter.
All service will be held in Greer, South Carolina.
