William Clarence "Bill" Dudley, 91, of Arnold, Maryland passed away from respiratory failure at Anne Arundel Medical Center on April 29, 2017 surrounded by his family.
Bill is survived by his children, Jennifer Dudley and Robert Dudley, and his grandchildren, Sophia and William Dudley. He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, and siblings, Robert Dudley, Margaret Mayes, Ione Folsom, and Christine Warren.
Born in Pocahontas, Virginia, he was the son of Hugh Robert and Cosby Harrison Dudley. Bill grew up in Huntington, West Virginia and attended Marshall University earning Bachelor's and Master's degrees in chemistry. Bill served in the U.S Army as a paratrooper during WWII with the 82 nd and 101 st Airborne Divisions, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. During the Korean War, he was called to the 11 th Airborne Division but the war ended before he was activated. Bill spent much of his career at David Taylor Naval Research and Development Center in Annapolis, where his was recognized as a top-notch chemist.
Bill loved playing golf. He also enjoyed reading, tending to his vegetable garden, following finance, keeping current on political news, and watching sports. Bill also was an accomplished varsity track runner at Marshall University. He very much loved his family and grandchildren.
