William "Bill" L. Carlile, Sr., 95, a resident of Charlestown Retirement Community, formerly of Severna Park, died on September 11, 2011 at his home.
He was born September 2, 1916 in Ridgely, MD, where he was raised and graduated from Girard College in Philadelphia, PA. He lived in Glen Burnie and Severna Park for 40 years.
He served in the U.S. Navy and worked for the National Security Agency.
Bill enjoyed gymnastics, swimming, playing tennis (including table tennis), weightlifting and golf.
He married Elsie Rau, who passed away February 2007, after 68 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his grandson Steven (Scott) Jones, Jr.
He is survived by his son, Willam Carlile, Jr. and his wife Maria of Mill Valley, CA; daughter, Joan Jones and her husband Steven of Severna Park; three grandchildren, Lorrie, Kimberly and William Carlile, III; seven great grandchildren; and a sister Ruth Guthrie of Severna Park.
A life celebration will be held in the future. Interment will be private. Arrangements made by Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA, 1815 Bay Ridge Avenue, Annapolis, MD 21403.
