William H. Burke, 87, a resident of Severna Park for 52 years, died Jan. 17 at Anne Arundel Medical Center, of emphysema.
He was born June 5, 1921 and raised in Jersey City, N.J., attending St. Peter's Prep School and St. Louis University.
He was employed at NSA, UNIVAC, and retired from Defense Comm. Agency. He joined the air force while in college, served in World War II and Korea. Among military awards was The Distinguished Flying Cross.
Mr. Burke was a member of the VFW and American Legion, and Golden Eagles of the N.R.A.
He was preceded in death by his wife Elaine; two brothers, Col. Mark J. Burke of Remsenberg, NY and Joseph Burke of Burke, Va.
He is survived by three brothers, John Burke of Roscoe, N.Y., Edward Burke of Annapolis, and Robert of Huddleston, Va.; and one sister, Marie, of Okemos, Mich.
Visitation is on Friday, Jan. 23, 9-10 a.m. at Barranco & Sons Funeral Home. Funeral Mass on Friday, Jan. 23, 11 a.m. at St. Johns Evangelist Catholic Church.
