William George Brown, a Severna Park resident of 42 years, passed away at his home on September 9, 2015. He was born in Buffalo, NY and raised in the towns of Tenafly, NJ, San Jose, CA, and Mansfield, OH. Mr. Brown graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in 1957, and a year later joined the U.S. Air Force as a 1st Lieutenant. He completed his pilot training in Bainbridge, GA and flew worldwide missions in military airlift command in the C-124 (Old Shaky) stationed out of Dover Delaware up until 1965, after which he remained in the Air Force Reserves and began a 30 year career of flying for American Airlines. On January 25, 1969 he married Susan Mortas from Syracuse, NY, his wife of 46 years, a former AA flight attendant.


He was a 35 year member of the Annapolis Yacht Club, as well as a member of the Allied Pilots Association Board of Directors, Chartwell Country Club, Knights of Columbus, and was formerly on the President's Council of his alma mater Holy Cross. As a pilot, he enjoyed flying the Boeing 727 and the DC-10. His favorite flying memories include racing to LaGuardia from Washington National and his farewell salute to Hawaii on his last trip. He was a Navy Football Season Ticket Holder for many years and sponsored several midshipmen. He was a fan of the Ravens, Redskins, and Orioles, and took pleasure in watching the Ospreys and Blue Herons from his house on Forked Creek. He also enjoyed golfing, boating, reading, keeping in touch with friends, and meeting his pilot buddies Monday nights at McGarvey's.


Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents James and Grace Brown, and his brother James Brown. He is survived by his wife Susan, his two children Kathleen Koerber (Fred) of Manhattan Beach, CA and James (Aimee) of Annapolis, MD, his sister Brenda Anglin (Tom) of Sandusky, OH, his sister-in-law Ingrid Brown of Paris, France, his four grandchildren; Claire, Alison, Jenna, and Bethany, as well as several nieces and nephews.


Friends and family may visit on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy, in Severna Park. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at 10:00 am at St. John Neumann Church, 620 Bestgate Rd, in Annapolis, with interment to follow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Chartwell Foundation or Hospice of the Chesapeake.
