On October 12, 2023 William Joseph Beatty passed away peacefully at his home in Arnold, Maryland surrounded by his family. Bill was a man dedicated to family and faith. He was a consummate husband, father, and friend. Born in Albany, New York on April 21, 1931 to Winifred A. Fitzgerald & William Colbert Beatty; he was the oldest of three sons.
After serving in the Navy during the Korean Conflict, he attended the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business graduating in 1957. His professional career was financial services and he rose from bank examiner to the Deputy Secretary of the Department of Banking for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Upon retirement, he consulted on the regulation of banks in several states.
Bill was a 50 year parishioner of St. Theresa's Catholic Church in New Cumberland, PA where he was a renowned leader and steward of both civic and church affairs. Bill was especially dedicated to the Malvern Retreat House where he served on the board of directors for many years.
Bill's greatest joys were shared with his wife Jean and their children and grandchildren. His greatest sadness was the loss of his eldest son, William Joseph Beatty, Jr. Bill is survived by his wife, Jean, son James Beatty (Carol) and daughters Nancy Gregoire (Bruce), Gail Davis (Emmett), and daughter-in-law Krista Beatty. Bill will be greatly missed as the patriarch by his grandchildren, Taylor, Brooke, Erin (Andrew), Annemarie, Emmett (Taylor), Elise, Alexa, Shane, Jack, Brian, and Brendan. Bill is also survived by his brothers, Robert and John (Sue).
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 15, 2023 from 2 to 4 pm at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A., 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD 21146.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, October 16, 2023 at 10:30 am in St. John Neumann Roman Catholic Church, 620 Bestgate Rd, Annapolis, MD 21401.
Interment will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023 at 1 pm at the Crownsville Veteran Cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville, MD 21032.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made at the Malvern Retreat House
