William James Abner Jr. (known to his friends as "Bill") was born October 18, 1935 in Washington DC to parents William Abner Sr. and Thelma Winn Abner. He passed away peacefully at his home on May 7th 2019 the day after laying his only sister, Dolores Abner, to rest.

Bill is survived by his first wife Anita Abner, with whom he had three children Steven, Sharon, and Douglas, and by his wife Jennifer Abner who he married in 1986, and their daughter Elizabeth.

He was a proud grandfather known as "Pop Pop" to Kaleigh Hedges, with whom he shared several years of his life raising as his own. He cherished his role as a grandfather to seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Bill served in the Army and was the first Abner family member to graduate college at Maryland University.  He thrived in his career as a computer engineer. He continued his path to work for the US government for over 40 years.

His favorite hobbies included travel, decorating for holidays, boating, and spending time with family. England was his most cherished place to visit, where he would spend Christmas with his wife's family, who loved Bill as their own. He became a part of their culture falling in love with tea and scones.

He joined Calvary United Methodist Church in 2003 where he later became the first president of the United Methodist Men's group. His passion was taking part in various mission trips, feeding and sheltering the homeless and learning about the Bible.

We invite you to join us at his Celebration of Life at Calvary United Methodist Church at 301 Rowe Boulevard on Saturday, June 15, at 11:00 a.m.  Followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall from noon to 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, we request that a contribution be made to Calvary UM Church in his name so they can continue their missions to help places like Appalachia and Guatemala and the homeless.
