Wanda Marsteller

Wanda Albina Marsteller, 84, an active community supporter and homemaker, died from complications of a stroke May 15 at Oak Lodge Assisted Living in Pasadena.

Born in Curtis Bay on Aug. 13, 1921, Mrs. Marsteller and her husband, Kenneth "Chick" Marsteller, moved to Glen Burnie where they built their first home. She supported him in forming a local paving business-Marsteller Brothers-one of the former community contractors in the area.

After three children were born, the couple moved to a permanent residence in Chartwell in Severna Park and in the summer to a house on the Severn River during the children's vacation.

She was an active charter member of the Severna Park Gourmet Club and Chartwood Garden Club, and was known for her flower arrangements and meals. Family activities centered around the Severn River. Her hobbies included softcrabbing in the morning, catching and steaming crabs on the weekends and occasional water skiing, her family said.

The Marstellers wintered at their home in Key Largo, Fla., where they liked fishing. She enjoyed gardening, swimming at a local health club, cooking, watching the Orioles and Ravens play and seeing her grandson pitch for baseball teams for a local school.

Her husband died in 1993. She was the mother of Kenneth Franklin Marsteller Jr. who died in 1968 and the sister of the late Albert Lechowicz and Sabina Dishman.

In addition to her grandson, she is survived by one daughter, Leanne Monica Cullember, and one son, Mark Kevin Marsteller, both of Severna Park.

Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 7426 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd., Glen Burnie. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401. Online condolences may be made to www.barrancofuneralhome.com.
