On Tuesday, July 1, 2014, Walter ended his life journey at home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kaaren and is survived by his three children Patricia and Sandra who reside in Iowa, and James who resides in Missouri, his granddaughter Sarah, his sister Carolyn, three nieces, 12 grand nieces and nephews, 1 great, great nephew and his loving cat Koki.
Walter's life included 7 years in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1968-1975 where he earned the rank of staff sergeant in communications-electronics. After his graduation from Buena Vista College, he spent 12 years as an engineer followed by employment with security contracting companies, most notably Frontier Systems Integrator, LLC.
He was an avid shot gunner, rifleman and pistol shooter, as well as instructor.
Walter was a kind, fair, loving person with a wonderful sense of humor. He will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held Friday, July 18 at 1 PM in the Crownsville Veterans Cemetery chapel, 1122 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville, Maryland.
