Walter Holmes Jones, 56, a resident of Annapolis for 25 years, died of a heart attack Sept. 19 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Born April 15, 1951, in Crystal City, Minn., Mr. Jones was the son of Virginia Louise Carson Jones of Severna Park and the late Wesley Norwood Jones, who died in 1990.
Reared in Severna Park, he was a past resident of Pensacola, Fla., Brownsville, Texas, and Louisiana. He graduated from Severna Park High School, Anne Arundel Community College and the Naval Air Technical Training Center in Tennessee, where he was top in his class.
Mr. Jones served in the Navy as an aviation electronics technician, servicing helicopters.
He worked as an offshore oil rig electrician in Brazil, the Middle East and the Gulf of Mexico, as well as a home and building electrician and in the computer home repair business.
According to family members, he collected unusual pets as a child, which included snakes, frogs, lizards, snapping turtles, bats, a raccoon, crow and cockatoos. His interests also included Harley-Davidson motorcycles, early Mustang muscle cars, the electric guitar and aviation.
In addition to his mother, surviving are his brother, Wesley "Kit" Jones of Riva, one sister, Annie Bailey Jones Cox of Severna Park, his brother, Ransom Sanders Jones, Sr. of Arnold and his brother, William "Bailey" Jones III of Annapolis.
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Oct. 4 at the New Covenant Church, 365 Jones Station Road in Arnold. Burial is private.
