Having lived a vibrant, loving, independent and healthy life for 87 years, W. Chase Coale, Jr. passed away on October 11, 2015, after a rapid decline in health over the preceding six months.

Mr. Coale was born on the family farm in Churchville, Harford County, Maryland, on June 11, 1928, to the late William Chase Coale and Ruth Elizabeth (Cain) Coale. He was brother to Basil W. Coale, James S. Coale and the late J. Henry Coale.

After graduating from Bel Air High School, in 1945, Chase attended the University of Maryland and graduated from the College of Agriculture in 1954. It was at the University of Maryland where Chase met the love of his life, the late Mary Catherine "Wit" (Albaugh) Coale. Upon graduation from the University of Maryland, Chase served as an officer in the United States Air Force and went on to have a successful career in the agricultural fertilizer manufacturing and supply industry. Chase and Wit were married for 46 years until Wit's passing in 1998. Together, they raised two sons in the Severna Park community.

Chase gradually relocated to Lewes, DE, where he enjoyed a relaxing life at the beach, his glorious flower gardens and an expanded community of loving friends.

Chase is survived by his two sons, W. Chase Coale, III, of Arnold, MD and Frank J. Coale of Highland, MD, and five grandchildren. Granddaughters Katie Coale and Amanda Coale are daughters of Chase III and his wife Susan M. (Mercer) Coale. Sarah Coale, Rebecca (Coale) Brew, and Max Coale are the children of son Frank and his wife Sharon A. (Alperin) Coale.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Sunday, October 18, 2015 from 3-5pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home. A service will be held on Monday, October 19, 2015 at 10:00am at the funeral home. Interment will be on Monday, October 19, 2015 at 3:30pm in Blue Ridge cemetery, Thurmont, MD (meet at cemetery).

The most important things in Chase's life were his family and his beautiful gardens. As a tribute, in lieu of flowers, our family suggests that you plant a tree or a flower for all to enjoy and take your loved ones out to dinner.
