IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Virginia B.
Fitzpatrick
November 16, 1928 – May 12, 2019
On Sunday, May 12, Virginia Burrows Fitzpatrick of Flushing, New York, then Pasadena, Maryland, passed away. Born November 16, 1928, Jinny was the daughter of the late William Horatio Burrows III and Irene Towne Burrows and the sister of the late William Horatio Burrows IV, Clark Burrows, and Evelyn Burrows Ross. She had great interest in genealogy and traced back her ancestors to William Brewster, the Pilgrim minister, and Rebecca Towne Nurse, who was a victim of the 1692 Salem Witch Trials.
After living through the Great Depression and happily seeing her beloved older brothers return from fighting World War II, Jinny graduated the valedictorian of Crown Point High School in 1946 and then from Douglass College in New Brunswick, New Jersey with a B.A. in English in 1950. After college, she got an apartment in New York City and worked as an administrative assistant. She moved to Flushing, Queens, when she married the late Harold Edward Fitzpatrick, raised her family, and lived until 2016 when she moved to Pasadena, Maryland.
Upon retirement, she enjoyed traveling to Paris three times (on the third trip, she finally got her lifelong goal of eating a pastry at a café overlooking the Seine) and going on trips with Elder Hostel to Mount Rushmore, the Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, and Yosemite.
Jinny loved the beach and after a day of bodysurfing, often crashing into small children, she would barbecue after sunset until park rangers said it was time to go. She also enjoyed eating out, bargain-hunting in outlet malls with her best friend for more than 30 years, the late Dawn Perlis, and she cherished her grandchildren.
Jinny was the kind of person who would do anything for anyone—friends, family, and her elderly neighbors. She had a fierce independent streak and drove until she was 85.
She will be dearly missed by her daughters, Ginger Fitzpatrick McDonald and Bonnie Fitzpatrick Feick, and their husbands, Michael McDonald and Christopher Feick, respectively. One of her greatest joys was being a grandmother to Connor James McDonald and Riley Michelle McDonald.
Family and friends may visit for a memorial gathering on Sunday, May 19, 2019 from 2-4pm and 6-7pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD, 21146. A memorial service will follow at 7pm at the funeral home.
