Virginia Dodson Dunaway, a long-term resident of Severna Park, Maryland and Ponte Vedra Beach,
Florida, passed away Sunday March 7th in her home in Severna Park following a long illness.
Virginia was born in Roe, Arkansas and attended grade school and high school there. She attended
college in Batesville, Arkansas and earned a B.A. degree in secondary education at the University of
Central Arkansas.
Virginia was a member and long-term active volunteer in a number of religious, educational and political
organizations in Maryland. She taught a children's Sunday School class for 15 years at the Severna Park
Baptist Church. She served as an active volunteer in various positions in patron's groups at both
Wroxeter and Severn Schools in Severna Park.
She was a member and active participant/volunteer in both the Severna Park and Anne Arundel County
Republican Women's Clubs.
She served as a non-paid volunteer in the White House in Washington D.C. during three Republican
Administrations. She often had an opportunity to travel with her husband on business trips which
enabled her to visit several European countries, as well as China.
Virginia is survived by her husband, Gerald F. (Gerry) Dunaway of Severna Park and a son, Jeffrey D.
Dunaway and daughter in law, Melanie W. Dunaway (nee Wilhelm) of Annapolis, Maryland.
A Christian funeral service will be held at the Severna Park Baptist Church, 506 Benfield Road on Friday,
March 12 at 12:00 PM. Interment immediately following at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville
Maryland. (COVID-19 restrictions will apply at both locations).
