Virgil Grant Poe passed away on April 6, 2024, he was 76 years old. He was born on May 26, 1947, in Grafton, WV. He grew up in Grafton, and then moved to Arnold, MD where he spent most of his life.


Virgil was a Veteran and served in the Vietnam War in the U.S. Navy. After being discharged from the Navy, he continued to serve his country in the Merchant Marines as a Stationary Engineer. After his time in the merchant Marines, he worked as a U.S. Naval Academy Boiler Plant Supervisor. After retiring, he went back to work for the NSA at Fort Meade as well as the Naval Research Facility in Chesapeake Beach, MD as a boiler operator.


Virgil was a member of the American Legion. Virgil spent most of his time on the water, he was a master angler. Some of his hobbies included shark tooth and fossil hunting, painting, and photography, but nothing was more important to him than his family.


He is survived by his three brothers; Nelson Poe of MD, Chucky Seifert, and David Seifert of FL; his three daughters; Rachel Walter, Robin Riggie, and Heather Poe of MD; three grandchildren; Jenna Shuman, Samantha Poe, and Joshua Hood; and two great-grand-children; Karleigh Edwards and Jacob Lavonture. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jordan Christopher Rice and his sister, Mary Ryan.


Family and friends may visit on Saturday, April 13th, 2024, from 2-4 pm and 6-8pm at Barranco Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy., Severna Park, MD, 21146, and a funeral service will be held on Sunday, April 14th, 2024, at 11am at the funeral home. On Wednesday April 17th he will be interred with full military honors, with his grandson at Glen Haven Memorial Park at 2pm.
