Valerie Hovey Cullinane (1947-2007)

Valerie Hovey Cullinane, a resident of Severna Park, MD died on January 3, at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, DC from complications associated with ovarian cancer. Memorial services and burial will be held at Saint Martin's-in-the-Field Episcopal Church, 375 Benfield Road, Severn Park, MD on Saturday, January 13, at 11am.

Mrs. Cullinane was a fiber artist, teacher, and award winning floral designer. She was a member of the Chase Home Auxiliary in Annapolis, and an active member of Saint Martin's-in-the-Field Episcopal Church in Severna Park, and was on the Board of Visitors of Kanuga Episcopal Retreat Center in North Carolina. She had toured Europe with the Berea College Choir, and sang with the Alexandria Chorale in Virginia and the Annapolis Chorale in Maryland. She graduated Berea College and taught fiber art at the Kentucky School for the Blind. She had individual art shows of her weaving in Louisville, KY, and had a studio at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, VA.

She is survived by a brother and sister, Bruce Hovey and Helen Brock, both of Texas. Three daughters, Ellen Cullinane Spanyer and Travis Cullinane Egbert, both of Louisville, KY, and Elise Caroline Cullinane of Severna Park, MD, and one son, John O'Shea Cullinane, of Louisville, and six grandchildren. Also surviving is her husband of 29 years, John Cullinane, an Annapolis, MD architect.
