Thomas Alan Towers, age 85, passed away peacefully at home on September 26, 2024.  A long-time resident of Arnold, MD, Tom was born in Ridgely, MD to Lester and Hazel Adams Towers.  He graduated from Caroline High School in 1957.  He received an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy, but due to an injury, he attended and graduated with two degrees from Salisbury State Teachers College.  He also spent a year at George Washington University.  After his marriage to Flora Johnson Towers in 1961, Tom received a Masters Degree in Environmental Science from Drexel University and continued his career as an Environmental Scientist in Baltimore and at OSHA in the Department of Labor in Washington, DC.

Tom met many friends at Severna Park United Methodist Church and was head usher for many years.  He also volunteered for the Church Garage Sale for years to help raise money for Volunteers in Mission, first in the toy room and then in electronics. He traveled to Alaska and West Virginia and served these locations for VIM.

He was a member and served as a secretary of Severna Park Rotary Club, and president of Kiwanis Club of Severna Park.  He spent a number of years learning to sail and crew on The Nathan, a skipjack, learning much about how they once sailed the Chesapeake Bay and Choptank River.

He was the father to Terri, Kris and JT and grandfather to Jackson and Jillian.  He is preceded in death by his brother Richard (Linda) and survived by his sister Carole (Russ).

Family and friends may gather on Friday October 25th from 4-6pm at Barranco Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy Severna Park, MD 21146. A memorial service will be held the following day, Saturday October 26th at 11am at Severna Park United Methodist Church, 731 Benfield Rd, Severna Park, MD 21146, with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in his memory to the charity of your choice.  The family would like to take this time to thank all his friends, relatives and caregivers who loved him so much, and to show appreciation to all of those that sent cards, sent food or shopped for us. We would also like to recognize friends and family who are unable to be with us as we honor Tom.
