July 13, 1933 – February 23, 2024
An aeronautical and model train enthusiast, avid gardener, and history buff, Thomas Murray Thompson of Severna Park, Maryland departed this life on February 23, 2024.
Thomas was born in Baltimore, Maryland on July 13, 1933 to John Willis Thompson and Ruth Murray Thompson. Raised in the Catholic faith, Thomas attended Catholic parochial school and became an Eagle Scout. He then attended the Polytechnic Institute in Baltimore, Maryland, and at age 17, with his parents' requisite consent, joint the United States Marine Corp. During his tenure as a US Marine, Thomas earned several medals for his exemplary service before being honorably discharged in 1955.
In Thomas' career as an airplane mechanic, he worked for several airlines before retiring from US Air in 2004.
Thomas' nieces and nephews fondly remember him as a caring and giving man who instilled confidence in them and encouraged them to learn by taking them for visits to the Smithsonian Museums, the US Naval Academy, tours of submarines, ships, and outings to planetariums and air shows. Also embedded in the memories of friends, family members, and neighbors is Thomas' sense of humor and selfless sharing of his time and knowledge.
With a perennial green thumb for cultivating flowers, rose bushes, and vegetables, Thomas is lovingly remembered by his niece Jackie as her "go to" for gardening questions.
Thomas' parents and his siblings John T. Thompson and Sarah Wagner preceded him in passing.
Thomas' survivors include his niece and nephews Jackie Taylor, John G. Thompson, Eric Wagner, Thomas' sister Judy Jann, and many close friends.
Undoubtedly, Thomas lovingly smiles on his close neighbors with appreciation and gratitude for their sharing in his care during his final day.
Thomas will be interred at the Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, Maryland with full military honors on March 7, 2024 at 10:45 am.
