Thomas A. Nester, Sr., 91, a resident of Severna Park, died of natural causes on March 20, 2009, at Baltimore Washington Medical Center.

He was born on August 13, 1917 in Pottstown, PA, at the age of 4, he moved with his family to King of Prussia. He had an undefeated wrestling career at Upper Merion High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Elma Wood Nester in 1938. Mr. Nester then attended William Penn Institute.

He worked for 27 years with General Baking Company "Bond Bread". After moving the family to Severna Park, MD in 1962, he worked with the Sealtest division of Kraft Food for 17 years retiring in 1982.

He was a past Lieutenant Governor of the Severna Park Kiwanis Club and a member of the Masonic Lodge #659 in Philadelphia. He also was the past President of the Severna Park Tennis League which was renamed in his honor as the Thomas Nester Tennis League. He traveled extensively and was an avid gardener, bowler, and tennis player. He also enjoyed playing cards.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elma Nester, who passed on September 27, 2005. Survivors include his three sons, Thomas A. Nester, Jr., of Richboro, PA, Earl John Nester of Elkridge, MD and Gerald Lloyd Nester of Severna Park, MD; one daughter, Barbara Nester Righter of Pensacola, FL; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Family and friends may visit on Monday, March 23, 2009, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Gov. Ritchie Hwy with Funeral Services at 8pm. Graveside Services will be held at Valley Forge Memorial Gardens in King of Prussia on Tuesday at 1pm.
