Thomas Malcolm Muller, 85, of Severna Park, MD passed away on February 5, 2020 in Rockville, MD after a month-long battle with pneumonia following surgery for throat cancer. Born October 4, 1934 in West Palm Beach, FL to Joseph and Vera (McKenzie) Muller, Tom was a fun-loving spirit who was one of the first people in the state of Florida to scuba dive using early "aqua lung" systems. He graduated from St. Ann's Catholic School and the University of Miami, and proudly served in the army between WWII and Korea. Tom spent most of his career in law enforcement, first as a crime lab chemist for the Metro-Dade Police Department in Florida and then as Director of the Crime Laboratory in Baltimore, Maryland, where he served from 1970-1996. In that role he transformed Baltimore's crime lab into a national model, helped form the first national association of crime laboratory directors, and implemented one of the first digital fingerprint recognition systems in the country. Tom was active his entire life, playing baseball and football as a youth, and tennis, racquetball, and golf as an adult. With his beloved wife, Toni, he was an avid traveler with a deep love of history and exploration. He was active in the lives of his two sons—as little league coach, patron, and role model. And as a loving grandfather he introduced his grandsons to horseback riding and Disney World.

Tom is survived by his wife, Toni; sons, Jeff and Brad; daughters-in-law, Sarah and Diana; grandchildren, Langston and Hanly; sister, Jeanne Denzer; and sister-in-law, Ann Muller—plus a loving extended family. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joe.
