McElhearn, Thomas H., 88, of Catonsville, MD, passed away on August 28, 2015 after a long illness.

Predeceased by his beloved wife, Margaret (Kerr). Devoted father to Deirdre Elmore Banscher and Sheila McElhearn. Devoted father-in-law to Michael Banscher. Cherished grandfather of Christian and Rachel Elmore.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Tom graduated from Bishop Loughlin HS in 1944, and gathered regularly with classmates until last year when he became ill. After a short stint in the Army Air Corps he became the first in his family to attend college. Upon graduation from NYU, he embarked on a career with the Brooklyn Union Gas Company that lasted 38 years. He and Marge lived in Bay Shore, Freeport and Lynbrook, NY before moving to Pasadena, MD after retirement.

Besides spending time with family, Tom enjoyed golfing with friends, bird watching, and being a docent in historic Annapolis. He was an active parishioner at St. John's in Severna Park, as a choir member, pastoral minister to the sick, and a dedicated member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. After moving to Charlestown Retirement Community, he continued with his community service and singing until prevented by illness. His generosity, love of life and sense of humor will be sorely missed.

Family and friends are welcomed for a visitation on Thursday, September 3, 2015 from 2:00pm - 4:00pm and 6:00pm - 8:00pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, September 4, 2015 at 12:00pm at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Severna Park.

Interment will be on Friday, September 4, 2015 at 1:45pm at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.
