Thomas (Tom) Richard Hogan, 89, an Arnold resident died peacefully on Tuesday June 17, 2014. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland and grew up in the Walbrook Ave section of town.

Tom served as a fire fighter aboard several fireboats for the Baltimore City Fire Department. He graduated from Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York as a ship's engineer. He spent the next several years travelling the world working aboard freight ships. As WWII escalated he was pressed into military service, and transported Canadian troops to Omaha Beach on D-Day.

On May 21, 1955 Tom married Jane Mary Jamison at nearby St. Cecelia's church in Walbrook. Shortly thereafter they moved to Annapolis and raised 6 children.

Tom was an entrepreneur and operated many local businesses including a sporting goods store, gas station and heating oil business.

He witnessed the opening of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Tom frequently took the family to his beloved Ocean City for vacations, a tradition that continues with the younger generations.

Tom was a fan of the Baltimore Orioles, and loved crabbing and fishing in the waters of the Chesapeake Bay. Tom also liked doing the daily crossword puzzle and gardening.

He is preceded in death by his parents John William Hogan and Irene Hogan. He is also preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Jane Hogan, and his grandson, Joseph Hughes.

Tom is lovingly survived by his six children: Glenn J. Hogan of Arnold, MD, Kathy Hammond of St. Louis, MO, Michael B. Hogan of Sacramento, CA, Kelly Hughes of Clearwater, FL, Thomas Hogan of Arnold, MD and Charles M. Hogan of Simi Valley, CA. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 9th at 9:00 am at St. Andrews by the Bay Catholic Church located at 701 College Parkway, Annapolis, MD 21409. A traditional Irish wake will follow. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake located at 90 Ritchie Highway, Pasadena Maryland 21122
