Thomas William Herz (77) of Pasadena, MD passed away on August 6, 2016. Tom was a graduate of Loyola High School in Baltimore. He joined the Baltimore City Fire Dept in 1965 where he retired after being burned in a house fire. Tom joined the IAFF in Washington, DC where he helped start the IAFF Burn Foundation and went into raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for Burn research.
He was instrumental in starting children's burn camps all across the country and Canada. He started the National Firefighters Burn camp in Washington, DC where a firefighter and a camper would be chosen from all the camps to experience a week once in a life time trip. Tom retired from the international after 20 years. Tom loved to play golf as much as he could and was never more than 2 ft from his crossword puzzles.
He was married to his late wife, Patricia for 53 years. He leaves behind sons, Michael Herz and wife Paula and Bryan Herz and wife Amy and late son Thomas Herz Jr; one daughter Brenda Karolenko and husband John; 5 grandkids, Caitlin, Rebecca, Sydney, Luke, and Chase; plus two great grandkids, Lennon and Camden. He was an inspiration to all that knew him and to all that he has helped. His life will never be forgotten.
A Memorial Visitation will be held on Wednesday August 24, 2016 from 3:00 pm-5:00 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD 21146.
