THOMAS JOSEPH HENRY, 78, resident of Arnold, MD since 2004, died in his home on February 7th, 2014, due to complications of cancer.
He was born August 29th, 1935, in Corona, Queens, NY; past residences include Middle Village, Newburgh, and Cutchogue, NY; Dickeyville, Columbia, and Ellicott City, MD.
A devoted Catholic starting with Resurrection Parish, Queens, NY, Thomas is the son of John Henry, from Rhue, Tubbercurry, County Sligo, Ireland, and Margaret Henry, from Swainford , County Mayo, Ireland; the brother of Rev. John Henry (deceased) , former pastor of Sacred Heart Church in Cutchogue, NY; two sisters, Anne O'Sullivan, of Fairfield, CT, and Mary Gallagher of Lindenhurst, NY. Mr. Henry married Patricia Corkran (deceased ) in 1962, resided in Dickeyville, MD, where they raised their three children, Patricia Henry of Elkridge, MD; Karen Henry and Thomas (TJ) Henry of Ellicott City, MD.
Mr. Henry, a 1957 graduate of IONA College, New Rochelle, NY, served five-years in the National Guard/Air Force Reserves. He worked for the Social Security Administration and attended MD University Law School. He retired from the Maryland Insurance Administration in 2004, where he worked as Maryland Claims Representative and Disability Examiner – adjudicating cases; in 2004, newly retired, he married his high school and college prom date, Mary Ellen Breheny-Levin. He was a faithful parishioner of St. John the Evangelist RC Church, where he volunteered as an advisor on 'Benefits' for the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He enjoyed Irish history immensely, restoration of antique furniture, faux painting, photography, antique automobiles / airplanes, and great movies.
Mr. Henry leaves behind his wife, Mary Ellen, his three children, five-step-children , and 14 grandchildren, … who already miss him.
There will be a gathering of family and friends on Monday, February 17th (4-8pm) at Barranco & Sons Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, in Severna Park. A Mass of Christian Burial , Tuesday, February 18th (10am) at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, MD, 21146.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions go to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. John the Evangelist RC Church.
