Thomas Edward Byrne, of Arnold, Maryland died at his home while in hospice care after a short illness, he was 81 years old.  Born December 12, 1936 to Lloyd and Catherine Byrne of Cincinnati, Ohio, Thomas was the oldest of six children.  He attended St Catherine's Grade School, St. Xavier High School, and St. Xavier University in Cincinnati.  Commissioned as a Marine Corps officer in 1959 he served for ten years to include a year- long combat tour with the 1 st Marine Division in the Republic of South Vietnam between 1966 and 1967. After leaving the Marines Thomas continued his efforts in defense of the country as an employee of the National Security Agency for 33 years. During this time he was exceptionally active in the Charismatic movement and was a leader in St Johns' Life in the Spirit Seminar. Thomas was also a Third Degree Knight and member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jacqueline Ann Byrne and is survived by his loving wife, Mary Boegner Byrne.  Thomas had two sons, Colonel Brennan T Byrne, USMC (Ret,(wife Michelle)and Chief Warrant Officer 3 Shannon Patrick Byrne, USANG (Ret)currently a pilot for Jet Blue Airlines(wife Jeanne). He had eight grandchildren ranging in age from two weeks to 26 years. Thomas was a fiercely patriotic man, a Charismatic Catholic born again in the spirit. He was also a tremendous husband, father, grandfather and friend. Thomas will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Friends may visit on Sunday, March 25, 2018 from 2-4:00 PM & 6-8:00 PM in the Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home 495 Ritchie Highway, in Severna Park, MD 21146. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Monday March 26, 2018 at 11:30 AM in the St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, MD 21146. Interment in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, MD.
