Surrounded by his family, Thomas S. Burns passed away on October 8 th , 2021 after a brief battle with cancer. Tom was born on December 29 th , 1950 to Mary (Ellie) and Gerald Burns. He grew up in Foggy Bottom Washington, DC where he was a member of the Hardy Boys Club and a graduate from St. John's College High School. He attended Bryant University where he was a member of their basketball team and Phi Kappa Tau fraternity.

He married Joyce Fisher in 1977 and they were blessed with four children. As a family they enjoyed many years at their home in Deep Creek Lake, MD where they would snow and water ski. He was an avid DC sports fan and passed along his love for the Washington Redskins to his children. He loved his annual trip to Pinehurst, NC with 18 of his closest buddies from High School. Later in life he found that the greatest role ever was "Grumps" to his four granddaughters. His love for family was contagious and he never lost a party.

Tom spent 42 years in the Commercial Real Estate industry as a long-standing member and served on boards for CORFAC International, SIOR and the Columbia Town Center Rotary Club. His career began with Kornblatt and Associates and later Casey, Miller, Borris and Burns. In 1988 he opened the Baltimore Washington Corridor office for the Carey Winston Company and returned to Transwestern in 2012. He retired in January of 2021 but would still enjoy weekly lunch dates with the guys in the office.

Tom is preceded in death by both his parents; his brothers Gerald and Michael; his brother in law Brendan McCarthy and sister in law Nancy Burns. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Joyce Burns; daughters Beverly Martin (Justin) and Avery Burns Williams (Tom); sons Thomas (Erica) and Taylor (Lane) and his four granddaughters Brianna, Jordan, Annie and Carsen; his brother Kevin (Jan) and sisters Chris McCarthy, Maggie Healy (Richard) and Mary Burns; sister in law Susan Burns; and a host of nieces and nephews. We are all blessed to have had him in our lives.

There will be a celebration of life at Chartwell Golf & Country Club on Saturday October 16 th , 2021, from 12pm-3pm. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Hospice of the Chesapeake in the name of Thomas S. Burns.
