Intelligent and creative, Terry had numerous academic and career highlights. In high school, she won the State & National Science Fairs for her research on the effects of radiation on the genetics of drosophila (fruit flies) and was a finalist in the 1967 International Science Fair. She obtained assistance and guidance for her project from professors in biology and genetics from the University of Notre Dame. She graduated from Penn High School in Mishawaka, IN in 1967.
Showing an aptitude for dramatics, Terry studied theatre in college, graduating in 1971 with a BA in Drama from Nazareth College in Kalamazoo, MI. She participated in summer stock theatres in New Jersey, Minnesota, and Michigan. She also attended Bowling Green State University where she pursued a master's degree in drama. She studied drama at the Drama Studio London and she was also an usher at the Old Vic Theatre in London, England, meeting Sir Laurence Olivier, Sir John Gielgud, Sir Alec Guinness, and other great stage/screen actors. After returning from London, Terry worked at the Arena Stage in Washington, DC.
Terry met her husband, Michael, in a night school class in South Bend, IN in 1973 and, during their courtship, he traveled to London to visit her while she was there studying drama. They were married on September 20, 1975 at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at the University of Notre Dame. Michael worked as a Legal Services attorney when they met and went on to work for the Department of Housing and Urban Development in Washington, DC, from which he recently retired after 42 years of service. They welcomed their first child, Michele, in 1976. After the birth of their second child, Genevieve, in 1978, Terry became a full-time mother and homemaker. Their third child, Patrick, was born in 1984. The family also moved to Severna Park, MD in 1984 and it has been home ever since.
In addition to being a devoted mother and wife, Terry also participated in community and parish theatre productions (Little Theater of Alexandria, St Matthew Cathedral, St Rose of Lima, Montgomery Players) as an actor, writer, director, stage manager, audio/visual engineer, seamstress, and prop master. She taught children's drama courses at Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) for several years. She also continued to further her education taking additional courses at AACC.
She was a well-remembered and beloved Girl Scout troop leader. Her last projects involved cooking casseroles and other meals for the homeless. She was also a devout Catholic who attended mass regularly until her declining health prevented it.
