Dr. Theodore James Brown, 84, a resident of Severna Park, died on April 3, 2015 at FutureCare in Arnold.
Ted was born in Brooklyn, NY on March 4, 1931. Son of Florence and Erskine Brown. Ted and his family moved with his family to White Plains, NY, then spending his elementary and high school years in Hyattsville, MD.

After graduating high school in Hyattsville, Ted enrolled at the Peabody Institute's Preparatory in Baltimore, MD. From Peabody, Ted moved to Catholic University to continue his studies, in piano, for 2 years. Ted then enrolled at the University of Maryland, College Park earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education.

Ted's first experience in the Maryland Classroom would be for two years with Sixth grade @Kentland Elementary in Bladensburg, MD. From there he became Vice-Principal at Lakeshore Elementary School and Belvedere Elementary School and started to work on a Master's Degree in Music Education.
Ted became Principal of Belvedere, Folger McKinsey, and Crofton Elementary Schools. Ted introduced the Outdoor Education Program at Camp Letts in Millersville, MD. Also introducing numerous clubs such as: Chess, painting, square dancing, sign language, typing, toastmasters and theatre arts with the support of his faculty.
Continuing with his studies, Ted earned a Doctorate in Education in 1963 from his long time Alma Mater, the University of MD. Ted looked for a change in which to further enhance the education of the students by showcasing the arts. He turned to the Gifted Program and became a Resource teacher impersonating the composers: Chopin, Liszt, Mozart and Beethoven and painters: da Vinci, Monet, van Gogh, and Picasso. An accomplished pianist and self-taught painter, Ted researched and wrote the plays, which took as long as two years, and designed the costumes.
He would spend the next 30 years doing the "Masters and Maestros Series" at venues across the United States and in Canada. These events encompassed multiple performances at: Baltimore Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, Peabody Conservatory, Cleveland's Severance Hall, the Phoenix Symphony Hall in Arizona and the Smithsonian Baird Auditorium @ the National Museum of Natural History, Washington, DC.

Slowing down in his mid 70's with health issues, Ted taught Music and Art Courses at the Annapolis and Arnold Senior Centers and the PL P at Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, MD.

Survived in death by his wife Donna Bennett Brown. Preceded in death by former wife, Mary Ellen Brown; their two children, Tracey Owens Platt of Pasadena, MD and Tim Brown of Glen Burnie, MD; two stepsons, Tom Bennett of Severna Park and Fred Bennett of Ocoee, FL; seven grandchildren, Haley, Lindsey, Thomas III and Timothy Bennett of Ellicott City, MD, Aaron and Spencer Bennett of Ocoee, FL, and Evelyn Brown of Glen Burnie, MD. Also survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday April 21, 2015 at 1:00pm in the Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church 611 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd. Severna Park, MD 21146.
