Tabitha Dawn Abrams, 41, of Pasadena, died on Feb. 21 after a 20-year battle with ovarian cancer. She was an inspiration to her family, friends and many people she never even met.
Born to Mary and Rick Burrows Sr. in Louisville, Kentucky on Nov. 27, 1973, Tabitha grew up a preacher's daughter and a military brat, living in Georgia, Arkansas, Louisiana and Virginia. She married David Abrams in Annapolis before the couple moved to Riviera Beach.
Tabitha devoted her life to her many passions, including children, animals, journalism and faith.
The ability to communicate with others was her greatest talent. She was a news anchor on Washington Metro radio for WTOP and WFLS in Virginia, as well as a newspaper reporter and editor at the Fredericksburg Freelance Star, the Caroline Progress and the Annapolis Capital.
After her diagnosis with cancer, she became a tireless advocate. She won a Clarion Award from the Association for Women in Communications in 2002 for her reporting on the issue.
Tabitha is survived by her husband David, her sons, Brandon Pierce and Curtis Pierce Jr., her sister Charity Beck, her brothers John and Rick Burrows, 10 nieces and nephews and five grandchildren.
A Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday February 28, 2015 from 4-7:00pm at the Barranco & Sons,P.A Severna Park Funeral Home 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD 21146.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition of Central Maryland.
