IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sylvia G.
Ender
May 8, 1950 – October 18, 2023
Sylvia Gertrude Ender, 73 years old, of Glen Burnie, Maryland, Passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at 7:49 pm, after a short battle with a very aggressive form of cancer.
Sylvia was born in Salzburg, Austria on May 8, 1950, to parents, Sergeant Arnold Bucklen and Philomena Maccani Bucklen.
Sylvia immigrated to the United States with her family at the young age of six years old. Her father was in the military and, as such, Sylvia and her family moved frequently to various military bases that her father was assigned to. Sylvia met her husband, Werner, the love of her life, in her early teenage years during the time her father was stationed in Germany. Sylvia eventually moved back to the United States where her father was stationed in Fort Meade, Maryland. Sylvia then moved to New York after graduating high school in 1968 where she worked as a switchboard operator at a patent law firm in Manhattan. Shortly after moving to New York, Sylvia and her cousin Maria took a trip to Austria and Germany where she reunited with her true love, Werner. Soon after Sylvia returned to New York, Werner followed her and they began their lifelong happy journey together. They were married in April 1972 and started a family soon thereafter. They had their first son, Matthew, in January 1973 while living in New York. After many years in New York, they moved to Maryland and had their second son, Michael, in September 1977. Sylvia lived at her residence for 35 years, with her husband, and held a payroll position for 27 years. She loved her job took great pride in her work, and the relationships she built. She formed friendships with colleagues that could have lasted a lifetime. She was everyone's go-to-person, and would never steer them wrong. When she greeted you, whether through phone, email, or in person, it made your day that much better. She truly loved her work family. She also took great pride in her home…everything had a place and a special meaning. Her love of lighthouses and impressive collection was evident of that, as it was displayed throughout her home. All family gatherings were held at her home. As soon as you walk through the door, the aroma of her amazing cooking filled the air. You couldn't wait to eat; she never minded when bites of food were snuck before dinner was ready. She cooked enough food to feed a dozen families because she wanted to make sure everyone had a to-go plate. She loved spending time with her husband and her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchild. They were her kids too and always made sure they never had to want for nothing. She loved receiving pictures and videos of them. She would always say "oh my goodness", smile and cry happy tears. She always looked forward to her daily phone calls, and visits from her sons and their family. She would have her arms open and ready for all the hugs. Spending time with her husband was the highlight of her day. They were married for 51 years and never missed a beat. Sylvia was a loving caring, sweet woman. Anyone who was lucky enough to have met her is sure to agree with this sentiment. Her personality shined bright through her infectious smile that could light up a room. She was always doing for others, but never enough for herself. She was a devout Catholic, attended mass often and truly enjoyed the time she spent at her Parrish. Sylvia will be deeply missed. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, Werner Ender and survived by her two sons: Matthew Ender (Cassie Ender), Michael Ender Sr. (Lonise Ender), grandchildren: Michael Ender Jr. (Brook Ender), Haylee Ender (Scott Hollaway), Izayah Ender, Shawna Ender, Sara Ender, great grandchild: Grant Ender, brother Dale Bucklen (Trisha Bucklen) and sister Melina Blackwell (Ricky Blackwell).
