Susan Mae (McElhone) Kimmel passed away on July 19, 2023 at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Dr. Terry Kimmel and her son Jeffrey Kimmel.

Susan was born in New York on November 24, 1943, a Thanksgiving eve present to her parents, Frank and Evelyn McElhone. Early in her life she developed a love of cats, sitting on the porch with her great grandmother's cats to her first cat, Casey to Sammy and those in between, there was a special bond.

Perhaps their love encouraged her to devote many work hours to various charities- Hospice of the Chesapeake, SPCA of Anne Arundel County and others. She was a tireless supporter. There was still time though for her artwork- paintings, needlework and antique collecting.

Susan graduated from Suitland High School and the University of Maryland. She enjoyed tennis, golf, swimming, and being with her friends most of all.

Susan leaves behind her sister and brother-in-law, Chuck and Judy, and brother and sister-in-law Jimmy and Susie, nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

Susan was a caring, smart and strong woman. She cared deeply about her friends and she cared deeply about her cats.

Family and friends may visit on Thursday July 27, 2023 from 4:00pm-7:00pm at Barranco Funeral Home, P.A. 495 Ritchie Hwy Severna Park, MD 21146. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Friday July 28, 2023 at 10:30am at St John Roman Catholic Church 689 Ritchie Hwy Severna Park, MD 21146. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Crownsville Veteran's Cemetery on August 1, 2023 at 1:45pm.
