Susan Ruth Clark Blackburn passed away peacefully at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, MD on April 8, 2024. She was born September 8, 1942, in Glens Falls, NY. Susan graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh in 1964 with a Bachelor of Education in Nursing and received a Master of Science in Nursing in 1973 from The Catholic University of America. Susan devoted her career to nursing, including as a school nurse, a nurse refresher course instructor at Howard Community College, and as Registered Nurse at Howard County General Hospital.

Susan was a longtime resident of Columbia, MD, where she was an active member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, before moving to Millersville, MD in 2007 to enjoy retirement and live with her daughter, son-in-law, and beloved grandchildren.

Susan was a lifelong avid reader and enjoyed playing cards, having lunch with friends, watching the trees and flowers blossom in spring, and decorating for every possible holiday. Susan cherished time spent with her family on Nantucket and gathering together to celebrate holidays and milestones. She was a kind and generous person, donating to numerous charities and always lending an ear or a supportive word.

Susan is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Chasse, son-in-law Kevin Chasse, and four grandchildren: Carys, Clark, Grant, and Gavin; as well as many nieces and nephews. Susan was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Robert Blackburn, her sisters Alice Clark and Mary Zibelli, and her niece Suzanne Schuck.

Friends and family are invited to share memories at a memorial service at Barranco Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, MD 21146 on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 11 a.m. At a later time, Susan will be interred with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery.
