Sue Stephenson Flaherty, 68, a longtime resident of Severna Park, died of lung cancer on Oct. 31 at her home.
The daughter of the late Everett and Jean Stephenson, Mrs. Flaherty was born April 2, 1936, and reared in Schenectady, N.Y. She graduated from Southern Seminary Junior College in Buena Vista, Va., and received a bachelor's degree from Syracuse University in 1958.
She worked as a social worker following college until her marriage in 1959 to Frederick Flaherty and later for the Phoenix Center in Annapolis as a teacher's aide, where she taught troubled teens for more than 20 years.
An avid bridge player, she also enjoyed boating and being on the water.
Surviving are one daughter, Jeannie Converse of Severna Park; two sons, Jim Flaherty of Severna Park and Rick Flaherty of Altamont, N.Y.; one brother, George E. Stephenson of New York City; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Martin's-in-the-Field Episcopal Church, 375 Benfield Road in Severna Park. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home.
