Sophia Ella Alt nee Bierbower, age 81, of Grasonville, Maryland, passed away on April 13., 2014 at the Anne Arundel Medical Center.

Sophia was born in Baltimore, Maryland on January 21, 1933 to Charles and Margaret Bierbower. Sophia was later a resident of Millersville, Maryland before settling in Grasonville, Maryland. Sophia was married for 57 years to late John Alt Sr. She is survived by three loving children: John Alt of Greensboro, Margaret Blann of Millersville and Robert Alt and his wife Beverly of Dundalk.  She was the proud grandmother of seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Always eager to travel, Sophia enjoyed many trips with the company of her closest friends. Sophia had a heart for giving and often could be found volunteering at the Grasonville Senior Center or at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in the quilting ministry. Games with friends and family were one of Sophia's favorite past times.

A Memorial Service will be held on April 22, 2014 at 5:00pm at Barranco and Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park.
