Shirley Sloan
Shirley A. Sloan, 71, of Arnold died of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease Jan. 19 in her home after a long illness.
Mrs. Sloan was born Oct. 6, 1936, in Amesville, Ohio. She lived in Vicenza, Italy, and in Germany as an Army dependent.
She retired from civil service from the Naval Ship Research and Development Center, where she was an editorial clerk.
A volunteer with the S.P.C.A., she loved reading and enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Claude R. Sloan; two sons, Claude R. Sloan Jr. of Wattsburg, Pa., and Larry A. Sloan of Arnold; one daughter, Linda S. Kerr of Baltimore; two brothers, Richard Bryson of Pataskala, Ohio, and Kenneth Bryson of Columbus, Ohio; four sisters, Marie Miller of Chardon, Ohio, Joan Smith of Athens, Ohio, Rosalie Newberry of Round Lake, Ill., and Shelba Anderson of Andover, Ohio; and three grandchildren.
Family and friends may visit from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow and Thursday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. Interment will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401.
